My love of history didn't blossom until well after my college days and even then it was pretty much restricted to pre-civil war in the South. After a few years of traveling around Texas, Louisiana, Alabama and Tennessee looking at antebellum homes it suddenly dawned upon me that I had been looking a my interests is such things was based almost entirely from one perspective. That's when I really started learning and loving history. While I enjoy learning the history of just about any place at given time, this blog space will be centered upon American history.
Since I cannot imagine that every reader would be interested in any given time period, Christie and I will arbitrarily pic several time frames and then try to bring each of those time periods to life on a somewhat regular basis. For instance, maybe we'll have Colonial history, then maybe pre-revolutionary war, followed byAmerican declaration of independence and so on and so on and so on.
One of my favorite things to do is to view history from the viewpoint of how events might have affected those whom Thomas Jefferson referred to as the common man. So, while we'll be talking about historical events that most of us has general knowledge of, we'll, hopefully, be able to find some not so famous people who actually lived during any of these time periods see how events affected their everyday life.
