And Then There Was Me!

I'm Christie, the other half of this blog's writing team.

My major interest in history stems from my interest in genealogy. My mom and dad taught me about our family history and in the last few years my interest has developed greatly. I have spent hours upon hours researching our family lines and have traced our ancestry back several hundreds of years. It is always exciting to find a new link!

My developing appreciation for history came about through taking a college history class this semester. The class is "U.S. History thru Reconstruction" and since I can tie my family lines back to dates and places from the beginnings of the colonization of America, it has been that much more interesting to me. I am now able to see the significance of all of my ancestors' lives and how they all relate to my existence here today. My teacher has an interesting philosophy about teaching. She believes that history is best learned and understood through stories, especially about individuals.

My dad and I are going to take that idea and use it here on this blog to bring you stories about history.
